      • Seifried Nelson Würzer 2018 $26.00 $24.00 $22.00

Winemakers Note Our Würzer has developed quite a following in the dozen or so years that we have been producing it. We proudly make the only Würzer in New Zealand, with just a few rows of the fragrant grape variety on our clay-soiled Redwood Valley vineyard. The aromatic cross is only planted in very small quantities, even in its home country of Germany. The Würzer was some of the very frst fruit we harvested during the 2018 vintage. It was picked in good condition as the vintage commenced. Afer harvest, the grapes were de-stemmed and pressed quickly to retain the clean freshness of the variety. The clear juice was inoculated with a pure yeast strain and then a cool, temperature controlled fermentation began. The fermentation was stopped prematurely to leave some natural residual sweetness in the wine and an off dry fnish.

Tasting Note the 2018 Seifried Nelson Würzer has an elegantly perfumed nose with aromas of rose and freesias. the palate has generous entry and succulent fruit notes of white peach and sherbet. The wine is off-dry and more-ish with a long favoursome fnish.

Intense ruby color with intense reddish hues, particularly bright and charged. The floral scents, typical of the grape, are clear and pronounced. The bouquet is completed by vinous suggestions and fruity aromas. On the palate it is structured, soft, calm and harmonious: if when young it can show roughness of character, such as a marked acidity and nervous tannins, the aging in wood softens it, giving the tasting enveloping, pleasant and persistent sensations.

The minuscule yields of concentrated fruit offered from these vines in 2015 provided us the quality and power to release our second Icon Petit Verdot under our Ironstone series.

We barrel fermented 40% of the juice in new French oak barriques, with 25% matured in 2 and 3 year old French barriques, plus older oak for the other 35%, maturation was 28 months. This powerful intense wine displays a bouquet of blackberry, violets, Spanish olive, Dutch liquorice and spicy cedary oak, with hints of lavender and musk. The palate delivers blueberry, star of anise, Kalamata olive, black cherry and bramble, all enveloped by firm- controlled tannins and savoury oak.

      • Seifried Nelson Zweigelt 2019 $22.00 $20.00
The Zweigelt is a red grape variety originating in Hermann’s homeland of Austria. It is a favourite at Seifried family gatherings. Our Brightwater vineyard has just 11 rows, totalling less than one hectare of Zweigelt vines.
Zweigelt has full round berries and bunches, with rich purple skin and intense fruit flavours. The grapes were de-stemmed and fermented on their skins, and hand plunged twice a day. Following fermentation, the wine was gently pressed from the skins and transferred to a mixture of new and three year old French oak barriques. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation and remained in barrel for 12 months.  The wine was racked from the barrel in May 2020.
The 2019 Seifried Zweigelt comes from the outstanding hot, dry growing season we enjoyed in Nelson during 2018 - 2019. The wine has a deep dark red tone with dense dark fruit aromas. The palate has a rich fruit weight with dark plums, Christmas cake and mocha flavours. Tannins are generous and well proportioned with the succulent fruit weight. One to savour!

    • Henri Bardoun Pastis $68.00

      How do you drink it?

Henri Bardouin Pastis is drunk as an aperitif, completed with water. Generally, six volumes of cold water are added for one volume of pastis. A pastis for tasting requires a greater dilution than industrial pastis, in order to appreciate its fine aromatic flavors. But, everyone is free to drink it more or less light, as desired as depending on the outside temperature.

      Organoleptic Profile

Appearance: the color of Henri Bardouin pastis is yellowish brown, shimmering with green highlights due only to the presence of plants, including wormwood. There are no colorants. The product is clear and brilliant.

Nose: The first anise note then moves aside for plant aromas, then the more exotic spices, such as cardamom, melegueta pepper, Tonka bean, etc....

Palate: A sharp attack of plants then a more structured evolution due to the presence of the wormwood (Artemisia vulgaris) and more complex due to the presence of spices, to finish by a good aromatic persistence.
Its complexity and finesse make Henri Bardouin pastis a true pastis for tasting. The balance between the 65 plants and spices that make up Henri Bardouin pastis is perfect.        Comments from the Blush team:

Native Bush Honey needed a blank canvas to shine on. We made beautiful vodka and refined the balance to the perfect point. Native bush honey from Potu peninsula, adds an incredible depth of flavour .We like how our good friends treat the bees. They not only focus on caring for the bees but go one step further to ensure their environment is sustainable, not only for them but for other wildlife around them. We are very proud to be apart of this.
    • Amaretto di Pellegrino $40.00 $31.00 $31.00

Amaretto (Italian for "a little bitter") is a sweet Italian liqueur that originated in Sarono ,Italy . While originally flavoured from bitter almonds, various modern commercial brands are prepared from a base of apricot stones, peach stones, or almonds, all of which are natural sources of the benzaldhyde that provides the principal almond-like flavour of the liqueur.

When served as a beverage, amaretto can be drunk by itself, used as an ingredient to create several popular mixed drinks, or added to coffee. Amaretto is also commonly used in culinary applications.

    • Lochiel Estate Mangawhai The Laird Fortified Dessert wine $35.00 $29.00

'The Laird'. This is a fortified Desert Wine made from Malbec grapes.  this is fortified wine made as fortified wine and has been matured in old American oak for 15 months.

Deep purple crimson in colour, bright and opaque, it's spicy, rich, plummy and just a little spirituous on the nose. The flavour is just gorgeous - it is rich, weighty, bright-fruited and expansive with a slight mintiness, deep purple fruit, subtle oak and smooth, satin-sheet tannins. There's no overt spirit flavour at all although there is alcoholic lift and warmth to the finish, which leaves a warm minty sensation, the aftertaste that reminds me of Cadbury's Old Gold dark chocolate with raspberry chips. The wine has 17% alcohol by volume and 500ml-sized bottle
    • Krohn Porto Ambassadeur Rich Ruby $40.00 $35.00

A stylish fruity nose which is full of intense and concentrated blackcurrant and cherry aromas. Full bodied and firm, the palate is crammed with luscious black fruit flavours. The wine has good weight and structure with a fine finish.

Ruby Ports, like Late Bottle Vintage (LBV), have rich colour and body, a fine aroma and taste. Their fruit character will range from bright, fresh red fruits in younger rubies to darker, mellow fruit .

Ruby port, with its firm tannins and concentrated fruitiness, is the style most suited for the classic port and cheese combination. It is particularly good with blue-veined and richly flavoured soft cheeses. It is also delicious with bitter chocolate.

Press Review: “Smells like a handful of currants, with a good whack of spice. On the palate, it’s a very winey Port, with a big rush of fruit up front, backed up by a spicy, nutty finish. Well balanced and with good weight, a well considered all-rounder (Hospitality, August 2011, New Zealand).

“Aroma with a vegetal character and chemical notes, allied to ripe fruit and jam. Full and sweet in the mouth, with firm but round tannins.Ready to be drunk now.” 16/20 (Revista de Vinhos, Jan 2008). Recommended drinking temperature Moderate room temperature.

    • Krohn Port Vintage 2016 $150.00 $120.00

Tasting Notes: Deep ruby black with narrow purple rim. A nose of wonderfully pure, vibrant red fruit, with crisp aromas of cranberry, raspberry and cherry and lively notes of plum and apricot. Emerging in turn from behind this curtain of fresh fruit are spicy aromas of black pepper and nutmeg, warm notes of mocha and scents of cedar wood and balsamic herbs. In contrast, the palate is voluptuous, with dense, mouth filling tannins providing both body and firmness and a thick coulis of black woodland fruit that flows into the endless finish. Although the first impression is of an ethereal purity, the wine develops an intricate complexity in the glass and displays the powerful but beautifully integrated tannins which are a hallmark of the vintage

Serving suggetions:Walnuts are an excellent accompaniment to Vintage Port, as are various cheeses such as Stilton and Dorset Blue Vinny. So too are dried fruits such as apricots or figs. Alternatively, simply savour the unadulterated taste in a good glass with good company

    • Vin Alto Vin Santo 2005 $40.00 $25.00 $25.00

The name Vin Santo translates to 'Holy Wine' as it was traditionally the wine used at Communion. It is a dessert wine made from Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay grapes. The grapes are set out to dry on racks for up to three months and when their juices are reduced to syrup, the must is fermented for some years in barrels. The drying process concentrates the grape sugars and gives the wine its distinctive flavour, complexity and elegance. It is a pale golden wine with a bouquet reminiscent of white flowers and honey. It is full bodied and sweet with the balanced acidity and long-lasting finish characteristic of a superior dessert wine. It has tropical fruit flavours of pineapple, guava and lychee, with a honeyed and nutty finish. Vin Santo is delicious served after the meal with biscotti or paneforte. Italians traditionally dip cantucci almond biscuits into the wine.

    • Sileni Estate Hawkes Bay Execeptional Selection Pourriture Noble 2019 -TROPHY WINNER - 2020 Hawke's Bay wine awards. $35.00 $25.00 $25.00

Only made in exceptional vintages, the grapes for this wine were sourced from two blocks in the Bridge Pa Triangle of Hawke’s Bay. The soil here is silt over river gravels. WINEMAKING NOTES The fruit was hand-picked and crushed into a small tank to sit overnight for flavour extraction, the juice was then transferred to a temperature controlled stainless steel tank for fermentation. A long, slow fermentation allowed the development of intense and concentrated flavours and the retention of a high level of natural sweetness in the finished wine.
    • Coopers Gold 2017 $21.00 $16.00 $16.00

      Winemakers Notes
In 2017 we again targeted Delwyn and Doug Bell’s Clone 548 Chardonnay to make our Coopers Gold. The fruit was in beautiful condition and picked ripe. We then freeze concentrated a portion of the juice up to almost 30 Brix. Fermentation was in tank and we stopped the ferment when the acid/sugar/alcohol balance seemed correct. This has given us a residual sugar of just over 100g/L. We made a wine in this style in 2004 and this wine surprised and delighted us by aging gracefully for 10 years. We are hopeful that our 2017 version will behave in a similar fashion!

As with most dessert wines Coopers Gold will gain further complexity with careful cellaring.

      Food Matches
Probably best suited to rich, luscious desserts. A dessert, which included stone fruits, vanilla and honey would certainly match the flavours and aromas. Try Crème Brulee!

      Suggested Wine List Description
Super sweet fruit, rich and mouth filling with a clean finish.
